Sample Numerical Ability Exam Question
Maria can complete an audit report in 6 hours alone. Pedro can complete the same report in 3 hours alone. Working together at their respective constant rates, how many hours will it take them to complete the report?
Using the product-over-sum formula:
T = (A ร B) / (A + B) = (6 ร 3) / (6 + 3) = 18 / 9 = 2 hours. Working together, their combined rate is 1/6 + 1/3 = 3/6 = 1/2 of the report per hour, meaning the job finishes in exactly 2 hours.
